Niagara Falls, ON – The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) will once again offer a great lineup of activities, attractions and offerings for visitors and families alike, during Ontario’s Family Day (or U.S. President’s Day) long weekend.
Over its short history, Family Day has quickly become the ideal time for a local mid-winter escape to Niagara Parks. With Valentine’s Day and Heritage Week celebrations both falling within the holiday long weekend, allow Niagara Parks to provide that perfect mix of rich and informative heritage, attractive winter vistas, popular attractions and satisfying culinary experiences that you have come to expect. Niagara Parks truly has something for everyone:
Heritage Day Interactive Exhibits
Grand Hall – Table Rock Complex
February 13 – 15, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The Niagara Parks Commission is proud to help celebrate Heritage Week with a special hand’s on exhibit at its Table Rock Complex Grand Hall. Heritage Week officially kicks off on Monday, February 16 and celebrates the legacies, history and cultural traditions that make Canada so unique. Learn more about Niagara’s involvement in the War of 1812 and NPC’s role in protecting the significant heritage sites, properties and stories that are important to all Canadians. Costumed Interpreters will be onsite daily to share in these stories while offering families the opportunity to try on a period dress.
Annual Spring Display
Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse
January 16 – March 18, Open Daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The perfect complement to any visit to Niagara Parks, the annual spring display features a variety of vibrant Primula, Calceolaria, Cyclamen, Cineraria, Schizanthus, tropical plants and shrubs. The expanded “Shop in the Garden” also includes a café area where visitors may enjoy light refreshments and shop for unique garden gifts. Located at 7145 Niagara Parkway, admission to the Floral Showhouse is $5 adults, $3.75 Children 6-12; and Children under 5 free (All prices $CDN + taxes). Season Pass upgrades are also available for an additional $5.
WE ARE THE INSECTS EXHIBIT
Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory
Family Day Long Weekend Holiday Hours
February 6 – March 28, Holiday Hours 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
The “We are the Insects,” Exhibit highlights the important role played by insects in our environment. Visitors to the Conservatory will learn all about the advantages and interesting adaptations insects possess such as night vision, special hearing, enhanced smell, taste and touch, as well as defence mechanisms which allow them to not only survive but thrive in their natural and increasingly settled habitats. The Exhibit was developed by the Montréal Insectarium, one of the largest insect museums in North America.
As part of the Exhibit, Niagara Parks is also pleased to be partnering with the Monarch Teaching Network of Canada, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and Natural Insect Control, to provide four entertaining and educational workshops intended to further showcase the important role played by insects, as well as the steps one can take to foster a more vibrant and healthy habitat for these creatures, in your own backyards.
