Namaste NiagaraJuly 24, 2018

There are no yoga sessions like this anywhere else in the world.

Namaste Niagara combines the ancient art of exercise and meditation with some of the most stunning visuals on the globe, by offering yoga sessions at two of Niagara Falls’ most breathtaking sites.

Participants will be guided through their stretches and routines at the Journey Behind the Falls base, with the crashing waters of the Niagara River tumbling over the falls seemingly right over their shoulders and the spray of the mist cooling their backs.

Afterward, they’re off to travel the Niagara Parkway on the way to the restaurant at historic Queenston Heights for a top-notch breakfast.

Those who sign up for another sessions will go to the Whitewater Walk, the quarter-mile plank walkway that runs along the edge of the whirlpool rapids - which are designated as Class 6 rapids, the most dangerous in the world and described by WetPlanetWhitewater.com as “nearly impossible and very dangerous” and where boating or rafting of any sort is absolutely forbidden.

Those who join this session go to the Whirlpool Restaurant afterward for a breakfast feast.Namaste is a gesture that is said to be a recognition of a divine spark, or soul, in everyone, located in the heart chakra.

Three instructors share the job of leading the sessions: Helena McKinney, of Fine Feather Yoga in Hamilton, Ont. who helped with similar sessions here last year; Danielle Hulan, who first experienced yoga in India and now teaches what the Niagara Parks Commission describes as a “grounded, slow and stress-releasing flow” in her classes; and Swapna Krishnamoorthy, who is currently finishing her PhD at McMaster University in Hamilton investigating the effects of mindfulness meditation on neurocognitive processes.

The cost for each session is $60 per person. More information is at NiagaraParks.com.
