March Break Niagara FallsMarch 11, 2019

Category:

It’s hard to get into the March Break mood when the thermometer outside seems to think it is still early January, isn’t it?

So do the right thing – get out of town.

Come to Niagara Falls where, even if it is still cold, there is a ton of things to do that don’t involve skiing (how many times can you go down a hill and come back up again, anyway?)

In no particular order, here is some of the fun that awaits after you make that trip down the QEW to Niagara…

You want warmth? The Butterfly Conservatory has it and then some. Come inside and while you enjoy the tropical heat, have a gander at the thousands of little flying insects all around you - butterflies are possibly the most beautiful of all nature’s creations.  Currently, there is an ongoing showing of the 30 winning entries from the Canadian Wildlife Photography of the Year contest. And all through March Break until April 29, the conservatory is showcasing Wild Ontario, an exhibit for kids and adults that provides a first-hand experience with barn owls, porcupines, a skunk, spotted turtle and – yikes! – snakes.
So, kids, you want some more natural history?

Then grab your parents and head on over to the Scotiabank Convention Centre on Stanley Avenue where you can say hello to a sloth and eyeball more than 30 other live forest critters that are native to Ontario. It runs from March 9 to 12.

While you are out and about, it makes good financial sense – are you listening, mom and dad? – to pick up some of the Niagara Parks’ Wonder Passes, which will get you into attractions like Journey Behind The Falls, Niagara’s Fury, the Butterfly Conservatory and other top sights.

Starting March 16 running through April 29, the annual spring flower show starts at the Floral Showhouse, across from the Horseshoe Falls right on the Niagara Parkway. This is no ordinary show – the experts from the Niagara Parks Commission are world-class horticulturalists and people come from all over Canada to see this presentation.

Howard Johnson Hotel By The Falls is an especially good base for your March Break adventure because of its location in the very heart of the tourist district. Situated on Victoria Avenue, you’re within easy walking distance of all kinds of attractions – Casino Niagara, which is just off Clifton Hill; next door to that is one of Canada’s biggest indoor waterparks; and there is the Greg Frewin Theatre close by, too. It features daily performances by Frewin, one of the world’s top magicians who headlined in Vegas before coming home to the Falls. His thrilling performances, including bringing a tiger on stage, and can be enjoyed as part of a dinner package or you can just go for the show. And did we mention Clifton Hill? We did, but it’s worth mentioning again because it offers everything from a giant Ferris wheel to wax museums, thrilling 3-D adventures, a multi-storey go-kart track and huge video arcade.
All that is right on your doorstep, when you stay at HoJo.

And of course, there is more. This is Niagara Falls we are talking about – there is always something more.

Where else can you go that offers so many adventures, so many attractions for kids and adults, and so many ways for parents and their children to bond with some fun time together?

It’s March Break – make something of it!
